Welcome to

Nestled in the heart of Arles' historic center, between picturesque alleyways and Roman monuments listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the hotel L'Arlatan offers a unique location at the crossroads of art and history.

In this exceptional place designed by artist Jorge Pardo, every corner is transformed into a living work of art: colorful mosaics, plays of light, and unusual volumes create a vibrant decor that is both warm and contemporary.

A luminous refuge, L'Arlatan celebrates art as a way of life and offers a unique experience where history dialogues with contemporary creation. From sunrise over the rooftops of Arles to lively evenings in the Camargue, the hotel celebrates the southern art of living in a spirit that is as inspiring as it is unforgettable.

About L’Arlatan

As early as the Middle Ages L’Arlatan was recognised as being Arles’ most lavish hôtel particulier - a grand townhouse - and now, thanks to the exceptional vision of artist Jorge Pardo, it is making an outstanding début on the modern stage. A gigantic 6000 square metres of mosaic now adorns the hotel with an explosion of colour, light and contemporary design.

Each room and each doorway is a unique work of art; the almost two million fragments of mosaic tile used for the renovation were all handmade. The different buildings, whose central part is listed as a Monument Historique, are set around a magnificent courtyard with a majestic staircase and lounges boasting unrivalled charm.

L’Arlatan welcomes you and takes you on an exceptional, magical journey through history, culture and the senses. Nestled in the historic centre of Arles, it is just a few minutes from the Place du Forum, the Roman amphitheatre (Les Arènes) and the Church of Saint Trophime.

Jorge Pardo and L'Arlatan

Born in Havana in 1963, Jorge Pardo is an artist and designer currently living in LA and Mexico.

After graduating from the Art Center College, he began his career as a painter and expanded his art by making Gesamtkunstwerke in places where he can work with the full spectrum of space and volume. Pardo is
particularly known for his use of lighting. He says himself that he likes to find the balance between sculpture, architecture, and construction.

For L'Arlatan, Pardo was given carte blanche to carry out this total work of art. This was a big challenge for him and his team because the hotel buildings are classified and protected as heritage sites. They had to work
in such a way as to preserve the historic walls while also infusing a new creative spirit.
